Tune: The Ash Grove (Welsh)
Lyrics adapted by: Barefoot Sociologist & A. Kus
For Nico & Kirsten’s and Iseabail & Marius’s respective Wedding Ceremonies
Recorded 16th December 2018. Sung by Barefoot Sociologist & A. Kus
1. Down yonder green valley, where streamlets meander,
When twilight is fading, I pensively rove;
Or at the bright noontide in solitude wander,
Amid the dark shades of the lonely Ash Grove.
‘Twas there, while the blackbird was cheerfully singing,
I first met that dear one, the joy of my heart!
Around us for gladness the bluebells were ringing,
I know now forever that we’ll never part.
2. Still glows the bright sunshine o’er valley and mountain,
Still warbles the blackbird its note from the tree;
Still trembles the moonbeam on streamlet and fountain,
But you are more wondrous than nature to me.
With joy and with gladness my heart is o’er flowing,
Through valleys and mountains and forests we’ll roam.
A lifetime of adventure, together forever,
With you here beside me, I’m never alone.
Properly-cheerful Miriam or massively-overcompensating-for-major-hangover Miriam? The former, I hope, but marvelous either way. Happy new year. 🙂
