Recovery Reading

I’m sorry I’m going to miss your lecture next week,

I found out I’m pregnant and I’m going to seek

a quick termination. My friend says it’s quite sore …

She chews on her bottom lip and gazes at the floor.

Anyway, she carries on, I wanted you to know

that my absence isn’t because I’m a lazy no-show.

She pauses, takes another quick breath and then asks,

Can you recommend some reading so I can keep up with the tasks

and the content you’re covering that day?

Of course, read chapter seven from Chavs whilst you’re away.

Thanks, she grins at you, I’ve started that book,

I’ll just keep on reading and then take a look

at the notes and the lecture slides you’ve posted online.

If you do all of that then you should be fine.

  1. I did not comment on this first time round nor second nor third and was not satisfied that I had nothing to say. Then I got it! Perfect. you caught that casual, dismissive, lets on get with life attitude and not discuss this big event right now. In just a few words to capture so much. thanks.
